Bought at Barnes and noble for a bit more money. Excellent book. I am a programmer but had very little experience with vb or vba. I picked the book up for my wife but then out of curiousity I ended up reading through it and doing all the exercises. I am now about 80% done with the book and pretty impressed. It is laid out in a very easy to follow format for beginners but doesn’t drag on unneedlessly so as to bore others that are already familiar with other languages. Another review wrote that the code has mistakes but I haven’t seen any, not sure why their copy has errors. I had only one issue following an example where I could not call sub modules from a different module as the author said is do able. I believe it is something I messed up. There can be room for error on the readers part because the examples do not show the code in its entirety. It shows the main loop with an insert the next code here, then covers that code with another possible insert here. So if you do not corectly order the code then it is not going to run. This allows the author to explain the sperate parts of the code in a modular form and also helps the reader actually understand what is going on by having to think about where sections of code go. I liked this book so much that I ordered my own books from this collection on languages that I actually want to study up on.
For a newbie to VBA, this book provides exercises in a step by step manner that lead you to a better understanding of coding in Excel.Problem is...a lot of the code just doesn't work, and has to be changed in order to make it work. Clunk! For a beginner, that is problematic, and a discouraging task. Very nice looking book, easy to read and use, but more than half of the VBA coding is not correct, does not execute, and one is left in the lurch, and asking what did I pay that money for? Typical lack of attention by the author and publisher. Probably in a hurry to publish and to hell with the end users. Would I recommend it? No, not now, when I know that there are other better books out there. Mr. McGrath, pay attention!
